At Sardis Health, based in British Columbia, Canada, our specialty is helping people maintain and improve their health through nutritional supplements and diet.
A local health food retailer has been presented with a prestigious national award. Sardis Health Food, located in the Chilliwack Mall, in Chilliwack, was the winner of the Brock Elliott Memorial Award for Retailing Excellence. The award, which was presented April 21 in a ceremony in Vancouver, acknowledges a natural health food store in Canada which excels in a number of areas, including product knowledge, store presentation, outstanding sales and customer service.

“This is indeed an honour any natural retailer in Canada would accept,” said Boyd Yamamoto, owner of Sardis Health Food. “There have been some outstanding stores which have been presented with this award over the years. To be included with this group is extremely flattering. For a small store like ours to even be nominated is an accomplishment: to win the award is really hard to describe.”

With so many great stores in Canada to choose from, the folks at Sardis have to be very proud of this acknowledgment," said Bruce Cole, publisher and editor of CNHR, the national business magazine for the natural health food industry. "The Yamamoto family has always been very dedicated about doing their best to serve the people of Chilliwack. Since Boyd and Eva have taken over the business from his parents 8 years ago, they have managed to take it to a new and exciting level. The fact that this award is decided by their industry peers says a great deal about the respect Eva and Boyd have throughout the natural health movement in Canada.”

The award is presented by the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA), a national association whose members include natural health retailers, vitamin manufacturers and distributors and organic and natural food manufacturers and distributors. CHFA has approximately 1,000 members Canada-wide. The award ceremony was part of CHFA’s annual four-day western educational conference and trade show.

The winner of the Brock Elliott Memorial Award for Retailing Excellence is determined through a two-step process. First, a store must be nominated by an industry supplier. The second part of the process occurs when all nominees go before a committee of industry members, who review all nominees before voting on the winner.

Sardis Health Food, has a long tradition in town as a family store. It was purchased by the Yamamoto family in 1988. Boyd and his wife Eva purchased the store from Boyd’s parents Mariko and Tats in 1999. Sardis sells vitmains, herbal remedies, organic and natural food, etc.
